What Uncategorized is
Uncategorized is not a zone you draw. It is the bucket ZeroCount uses for everything your zones do not cover, so that per-zone totals always add up to the drawing total. If a drawing has no zones at all, everything is in it, and it stays out of sight.
The following land in it:
- A Detection or Count marker whose box centre lies outside every zone polygon.
- The part of a Linear run that leaves every zone — a run that starts in
Kitchenand ends in the corridor contributes its corridor length here. - The part of an Area polygon outside every zone, worked out the same way.
- Every marker on a drawing that has no zones, when viewed in Review mode.
Uncategorized is always listed last, and always sorted last in exports, whatever you rename it to.
Where it appears

Renaming the label
The default label is Uncategorized. On many jobs a better word exists — External, Plant room, Not in scope, Landlord — and the label is editable per drawing, so each sheet can say something different.

Switch the sidebar to Zones view using the view-mode button.

Click the Uncategorized label in the grey section header. It becomes an input.

Type the new label and press Enter. Press Esc to keep the old one.
The new label is saved with the drawing and used everywhere the table above lists: the Zones view header, that drawing's tab in Review mode, and the export column header. A blank or whitespace-only label reverts to Uncategorized.
The rename is per drawing. Renaming it to External on the ground floor leaves the first floor reading Uncategorized until you rename that one too. The Excel Totals sheet uses the label of the drawing that was open when you exported.
The Uncategorized section is hidden while empty, so if you cannot see it there is nothing to rename yet. Draw a zone that leaves at least one marker outside it, rename the label, and it will keep the name.
Keeping Uncategorized small
A large Uncategorized bucket usually means the zones do not tile the drawing. Some habits that help:
- Draw zones edge to edge. A gap between two rooms becomes a strip of Uncategorized wherever a run crosses it.
- Check marker centres, not boxes. A symbol straddling a wall counts wherever its centre is. Nudge the marker or extend the zone.
- Finish zones before you read totals. Zones can be drawn or reshaped at any time; membership is recalculated instantly, so tidy the polygons before you export.
- Use it deliberately. If a drawing has markers you want counted but not attributed to a room — external lighting, say — leave them outside every zone and rename the bucket to match.
Common issues
The export has no Uncategorized column
The drawing has no zones. Without zones the sheet shows only Total Quant. Draw at least one zone to get the per-zone breakdown and the Uncategorized column.
The Uncategorized total is larger than the zone totals combined
Zones cover a small part of the drawing. Everything outside them is here. That is correct, but it may mean the zone layout is incomplete.
A rename did not carry to another drawing
Labels are per drawing. Open the other drawing and rename its label separately.
