Importing and exporting assemblies via Excel
If you prefer working in a spreadsheet, you can manage assemblies through Excel using Ensign's built-in import/export tool.
- 1
Go to Tools > Setup > Import/Export Data.
- 2
Export the assemblies. Save the file as a CSV for best compatibility.
- 3
Open the CSV in Excel. The spreadsheet contains labelled columns showing the assembly headings (marked "H"), components (marked "C"), quantities, and associated components (marked "A" for bend mappings).
- 4
Make your changes — adjust quantities, add new assemblies, or modify existing ones.
- 5
Save the CSV and go back to Tools > Setup > Import/Export Data. Choose Import and select your updated file. When prompted, choose whether to delete existing assemblies before importing or to add alongside them.
If you choose to delete existing assemblies during import, all current assemblies are removed and replaced with the contents of your CSV. If you are only adding or tweaking a few assemblies, choose No when asked about deleting existing assemblies to preserve everything already in the database.
Exporting to CSV is also a useful way to back up your assemblies before making large-scale changes. Keep a dated copy of the export so you can restore your library if needed.
