Why duplicate a job?
If you frequently quote similar types of work, there is no need to start from scratch each time. Ensign lets you copy an existing job — complete with its section structure, takeoff lines, and markup — so you can hit the ground running on a new estimate.
Using Copy Job
- 1
Go to the Amend Job screen and select the job you want to use as your starting point. This could be a previous live project or a dedicated template job you have set up specifically for this purpose.
- 2
Click the Copy Job button at the bottom of the screen.
- 3
The next job code is filled in automatically if you have automatic job codes enabled. Update the job name to reflect the new project.
- 4
Choose what you want to copy:
- Entire project — copies everything including markup and schedule of rates.
- Markup and takeoff lines — copies everything except the quantified schedule of rates.
- Section structure and takeoff lines — copies sections and items but no markup.
- Section structure only — copies just the folder structure with no items or markup.
- 5
Click Confirm. The new job is created and you can jump straight into the takeoff screen.
Consider creating one or more dedicated template jobs that you never actually submit as quotes. Keep them as clean starting points, named clearly (e.g. "Template - Office Fit-Out"), so anyone on your team can copy from them.
When to use each copy mode
- Entire project — you regularly quote the same type of project with a similar breakdown of services and floors and want to reuse your markup and schedule of rates as well.
- Markup and takeoff lines — you want to keep your pricing structure but do not need the schedule of rates from the original job.
- Section structure and takeoff lines — you want to reuse takeoff lines where only a few quantities need adjusting, but each project has its own markup.
- Section structure only — you need consistent section structures across your team's estimates but will add items and markup from scratch.
If you only need to reuse the section structure without maintaining an entire template job, you can save and import section templates instead. See section templates for details.
