You can save your standard markup percentages so they are pre-filled every time you create a new project. This saves you from entering the same figures each time and means you only need to adjust values for jobs that differ from your standard rates.
Setting up preset percentages
- 1
From the home screen, go to Tools > Miscellaneous File.
- 2
You will see fields for each material category and labour type, along with fields for General Overhead, Profit, and Builders Discount. Enter your standard percentages for each. For example, you might enter 20% on materials, 50% on labour, and 10% for general overhead.
- 3
You can also preset default on-cost percentages for subcontract work on the same screen. If you typically mark up subcontractor quotations by 5%, enter that value here.
- 4
Press Exit to save. All new projects will now have these values pre-filled on the summary table.
The exact category headings shown in the miscellaneous file depend on which trade package you are using:
| Package | Categories shown |
|---|---|
| Electrical | Each electrical material category listed individually, plus site labour |
| Mechanical | Materials, sanitary, water storage, boilers, specialised materials, site labour |
| Ductwork | Fewer categories reflecting the simpler material structure |
| Insulation | Site labour and materials only |
What can be preset
The miscellaneous file lets you preset the following values:
- On-cost percentages for each material category and labour type.
- Subcontract markup percentage.
- General overhead percentage.
- Profit percentage.
- Builders discount (as a fraction or percentage, depending on your system preference).
When you create a new project and reach the summary table, all of these values will already be filled in. You can review them, adjust any that need to change for this particular job, and proceed.
Even with preset percentages, you can still overtype any value on a per-project basis. Presetting is most valuable when nine out of ten jobs use the same standard markup -- you only need to adjust the exceptions rather than entering every figure from scratch.
Preset markup with accumulate sections
You can use preset markup percentages in conjunction with the accumulate sections setting. When you enter section markup on a project that uses accumulate sections, the preset values will be applied as the starting point for each section, saving you from entering them manually.
Preset markup with cost codes
If your system uses cost code markup, the miscellaneous file still controls your default percentages. The preset values apply to the cost code breakdown tab in the same way they would apply to the standard material category breakdown.
