Tolerance, deviation, and rotation settings
Before running the count, you can adjust several settings below the symbol preview that control how strictly the software matches symbols across the drawing.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Tolerance | Controls how many matches the software recommends. A higher tolerance accepts symbols that are a closer match to your selected sample. |
| Deviation | Controls how many differences the software allows. A higher deviation accepts symbols with more variation from the original. |
| Deviation Boost | Increases the deviation further with a single click. Use this when you know instances of the symbol have noticeable positional differences — for example, a letter that sits in a slightly different spot on some instances. |
| Scan for 90-degree rotations | Tells the software to look for the symbol at 0, 90, 180, and 270 degrees. Use this for items like switches and sockets that may be rotated on the drawing. It is less useful for symbols that always appear in the same orientation, such as labelled light fittings. |
When to adjust these settings
In most cases, the default tolerance and deviation values work well. The software will often suggest optimal settings — when it does, accept the suggestion by pressing Yes on the prompt. Only adjust the settings manually if:
- The count is missing symbols you can see on the drawing — try increasing the deviation or using the deviation boost.
- The count is picking up false matches (similar but different symbols) — try reducing the deviation or avoiding the deviation boost.
- Symbols appear at different rotations — enable the 90-degree rotation scan.
If the system displays a suggestion prompt when you first enter the auto-count screen, it is usually recommending a setting that will improve accuracy. In most cases, press Yes to accept it.
Running the count
- 1
Confirm that your symbol selection and settings are correct by reviewing the preview.
- 2
Press the Count Symbol button.
- 3
Wait for the scan to complete. Depending on the complexity of the drawing and the number of symbols, this may take a few seconds.
- 4
Once the scan finishes, the software highlights every matched symbol on the drawing in your chosen colour and displays the total count — for example,
89 symbols found.
At this point, the count is tentative. You should always review the results before moving on to confirm that the software has counted the correct items.
Reviewing results
After the count completes, use the Review Search feature to inspect every matched symbol and correct any errors.
- 1
Click the Review Search button at the top of the auto-count panel.
- 2
The review screen displays a thumbnail of every symbol the software counted. Scroll through the list to verify each match visually.
- 3
If a match is incorrect — for example, the software has picked up a dimmable variant when you only wanted the standard fitting — click on it to deselect it. Deselected items turn red.
- 4
You can also adjust the quantity manually in the review screen if needed.
- 5
Once you have reviewed the full list, press the Count button again to recount with your corrections applied. The software updates the total and removes the highlight from any deselected symbols on the drawing.
- 6
When you are satisfied with the results, close the review screen by pressing the shutdown/close button.
Common false matches to watch for
- Dimmable vs standard fittings — symbols with a small additional letter (e.g.
Dfor dimmable) may be matched alongside the standard version. Deselect the ones you do not want. - Similar shapes — the software may match a circle with
B1inside and also pick up a circle withA1if the deviation is set too high. - Legend symbols — if you forgot to set an exclusion zone, symbols in the legend will appear in the results. Deselect them, then set an exclusion zone before your next count.
Always review your results before moving on. The software may occasionally match similar-looking symbols — for example, counting dimmable variants alongside standard fittings. A quick review catches these errors early and ensures your quantities are accurate.
After reviewing
Once you have confirmed the count is correct:
- The counted symbols remain highlighted on the drawing in your chosen colour.
- The total quantity is logged in the service panel under the active service.
- The counted items become a layer in the Layers panel, which you can toggle on and off (see Drawing Layers).
You can now move on to counting the next symbol type on the same drawing, or switch to a different drawing.
After completing a count, use the Show/Hide button (eye icon) to temporarily hide all counted items. This reveals what is left to take off and helps you plan your next count — see Auto-Count Show/Hide and Cross-Drawing Matching for details.
