The assemblies browser
The assemblies browser — accessed by clicking Assemblies on the left-hand side of the takeoff screen — provides buttons along the bottom for managing your assembly library. All changes made here affect the master assembly database and are visible to every user who shares your system.
Amend
Select an assembly and press Amend to open it in the assembly builder screen. From here you can:
- Change component quantities — adjust a cable allowance, support spacing, or any other per-metre or per-unit quantity.
- Add new component items — use the database browser or the Add Special/Free Type button to include additional products.
- Remove items — highlight a component and press Delete Selected Lines to remove it from the assembly.
- Update the description, main index, sub index, or category — reorganise or rename the assembly as needed.
- Add, edit, or remove associated components — configure automatic bend and fitting detection for the PDF takeoff (see Setting Up Associated Components).
- Change the unit of measure — switch between Unit and Linear if the measurement basis needs to change.
Changes made via Amend update the master assembly and affect all future jobs. Existing jobs where the assembly has already been input are not affected — those takeoff lines remain as they were. If you only need to adjust quantities for a single project, use the one-off instance feature on the takeoff screen instead (see Assembly Display and Preferences).
Copy
Select an assembly and press Copy to duplicate it as a starting point for a similar assembly. This is significantly faster than building from scratch — for example, you can copy a 50mm cable tray assembly to create a 100mm version, then simply swap out the tray and fittings for the larger size while keeping the support arrangement and quantities intact.
After copying, the assembly builder opens with all the original component items and settings pre-filled. Amend whatever you need, give the new assembly a distinct description, and press Save & Exit.
The copy function is the fastest way to build a family of related assemblies. Start with one well-configured assembly, copy it for each variation (different sizes, different manufacturers, different specifications), and adjust only what differs.
Delete
Select an assembly and press Delete to remove it from the database. This is permanent — the assembly is removed from the master file and will no longer be available for any job.
Deleting an assembly does not affect jobs where the assembly has already been input. Those takeoff lines remain on the examine grid as they are — they are independent of the master assembly once they have been placed.
There is no undo for deleting an assembly. If you are unsure, consider renaming or moving the assembly to a different category rather than deleting it. If you do need to recover a deleted assembly, contact the support team to discuss backup restoration options.
