Section status
Section status is a visual aid that helps you track your progress across the estimate. It uses a traffic-light colour scheme so you can see at a glance which sections are complete, which are in progress, and which have not been started.
To set or view a section's status, right-click the section and select Section Status.
Status colours
| Colour | Status | How it is set |
|---|---|---|
| Red | Unused | Set automatically when a section is first created |
| Amber | Work in Progress | Set automatically when the first item is added to the section |
| Green | Complete | Set manually by you when you have finished pricing the section |
Getting into the habit of marking sections as complete helps you stay organised on large projects with many sections. It provides a quick sanity check before you move to the summary table — if any sections are still amber, you know there is more work to do.
Locking sections
To prevent accidental changes to a finished section, right-click it and select Lock. A tick icon appears next to the section name, indicating that the section is protected.
While a section is locked:
- You cannot add, remove, or modify takeoff lines within that section.
- The lock applies only to the individual section, not to the parent folder or sibling sections.
To unlock a section when you need to make amendments, right-click it and select Lock again. The tick icon disappears and the section becomes editable.
Locking is particularly useful in multi-user environments. If you have completed your pricing for a section and a colleague is working elsewhere in the same job, locking prevents them from accidentally modifying your finished work.
