Section templates
If you frequently use the same sectional structure — for example, a standard breakdown for commercial fit-outs or a typical residential layout — you can save it as a template and import it into new jobs. This avoids rebuilding the same structure from scratch every time.
Saving a structure template
Once you have built your section structure on the takeoff screen, save it for future reuse:
- 1
Right-click anywhere in the white space of the section panel.
- 2
Select Save Structure Template.
- 3
Give the template a descriptive name so you can identify it later (e.g. "Commercial Standard", "Hotel Room Types", or "Residential 3-Bed").
- 4
Press Confirm. The template is saved to a dedicated folder and is available across all your projects.
The template saves only the section layout — section names, hierarchy levels, and any multipliers you have set. It does not include takeoff lines or pricing data.
Importing a structure template
To load a saved template into a new or existing job:
- 1
Right-click anywhere in the white space of the section panel on the takeoff screen.
- 2
Select Import Structure Template.
- 3
Choose the template you want to use from the list and press Confirm.
The template's section structure is imported into the current job. You can then rename, add, or remove sections as needed for the specific project.
Templates are especially powerful when combined with the Copy Job function. You can copy a completed job using Copy Section Structure Only to create a reusable starting point, then save that structure as a template for even faster access in future.
Section templates with disciplines (MEP)
If you are using the MEP version of the software, you can preset the discipline for each section within the template spreadsheet. Use column E with the following values:
| Value | Discipline |
|---|---|
| 1 | Electrical |
| 2 | Mechanical |
| 3 | Plumbing |
This saves you from having to manually set the discipline for every section after import.
Keeping sections expanded
By default, creating a new section collapses the others. If you prefer to see all sections at once, you can change this behaviour:
- 1
Right-click anywhere in the white space of the section panel.
- 2
Select Keep Globally Expanded.
All sections now remain visible and expanded as you work. This setting persists for the current job and can make navigation easier on projects with many sections, as you do not need to keep clicking to expand folders.
