Moving items between sections
If you accidentally add items to the wrong section, you can move them using the standard cut and paste shortcuts:
- 1
Highlight the items you want to move on the examine grid. Click the row indicator on the left-hand side of the first item, then hold Shift and click the last item to select a range.
- 2
Press CTRL+X to cut the selected items.
- 3
Select the correct destination section in the sectional structure.
- 4
Press CTRL+V to paste the items into the new section.
You can also use CTRL+C to copy items if you want to keep them in the original section as well. This is useful when you need the same items in multiple sections — for example, duplicating a set of accessories across several floors.
The keyboard shortcuts work the same way as in a spreadsheet application. You can also right-click on the examine grid to access the copy, cut, and paste options from the context menu.
Toggling between disciplines (MEP)
If you are using the MEP version of the software in non-strict mode, you can toggle between the Electrical and Mechanical databases using the discipline switch at the top of the takeoff screen.
When you toggle the discipline:
- The category list on the left-hand side changes to show the categories relevant to the selected discipline.
- The default labour rate changes to match the discipline, since electrical and mechanical work may use different hourly rates.
- Items you add while a particular discipline is active are drawn from that discipline's database and priced accordingly.
In strict mode, the discipline is set at the section level rather than toggled globally. Each section is assigned a discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, or Plumbing) and you can only place items from that discipline's database into that section. For more detail on strict mode and discipline management, see Changing Disciplines (MEP).
In strict mode, you cannot change a section's discipline if it already contains takeoff lines. Remove all items first, or create a new section with the correct discipline and move the items across.
